It doesn’t matter.
Okay, I’ll give you a little more than that.
Any diet will work when you’re fat. ANY diet. You just need to follow it for more than the 2 weeks you usually follow a diet. See, diets (just about any diet) will help you lose weight–if you stick to it. But that’s where most people fail. I have lost lots of weight by just dieting alone. I once lost 100 lbs IN FOUR MONTHS just dieting. (from 350 to 250)
Of course I put 80 of that back on over the next few years.
It’s inevitable, that creep up in the weight when you go off the diet. So what can you do?
Don’t go on a diet.
I’m not kidding.
You want to know what my diet is? I eat whatever I want.
Yep, as a matter of fact, I had a hamburger, some Ruffles, and dip, and three beers, then went to a movie and got some popcorn and a large Coke Zero.
It was Guy’s Night Out with some married buddies of mine. We do it every so often. And I don’t sit there and mince and moan about what I can and cannot eat. I live my damn life.
My goal is to get into shape and lose some fat. I also have to exist in this reality. Instead of constantly waging wars against the rest of the world and my healthy lifestyle, I let them co-exist. So I have made the decision that I will eat right whenever I can. Get that? Whenever I can. Remember, fit people don’t owe it to you to not bring in donuts on Fridays, or not have a potluck at work. It’s not their fault you’re fat. So stop getting upset with other people LIVING THEIR LIVES. Roll with it, baby. If you know there’s a potluck coming up and you know you want to partake, by all means, enjoy the shit out of yourself, but plan for it. Don’t eat breakfast and plan on a light or no dinner. And then…workout like the devil was chasing you. Not only will it burn off a few of those calories, it will make you feel better afterward. And that’s half the battle.
So I typically eat right about 85-90% of the time and don’t the rest. Some weeks it’s more like 50/50 but that’s okay because IT’S SUSTAINABLE! Hell some weeks I eat what I consider “right” 100%, and guess what? I lose a shit ton of weight that week. On the other weeks I don’t lose anything, or I put on a few pounds. Whatever. My weight isn’t that important anyway, it’s how I look that matters.
But I digress.
Pick an eating plan you can stay on (remember Lesson 1). For me, with my intermittent fasting, during the week, I don’t eat breakfast or lunch, but have a satisfying dinner. (I do it this way for a reason, see my exercise page for why) If I am eating what I consider right, then I have some chicken and vegetables or fish and vegetables. (I also do some juicing with my juicer so I drink that too) And then I wrap up every night with some whiskey.
Yea, you read that right. I have a nightcap almost every night with whiskey. But I can eat like this (drink?) because I watch what I eat most days and I workout HARD every day (I burned 1173 calories today in one hour of violent cardio).
